I’ve owned the MSR Whisperlite for years now, and it’s never failed. It burns just about anything from white gas & kerosene to unleaded petrol (personal choice). It boils a pot of water in under 2 minutes and is ideal for cooking up hot drinks or pasta dishes after a long day.

It is very field serviceable and easily comes apart into its individual pieces (I’ve done it a few times) and includes ’shaker jet’ technology, which is effectively a little pin that cleans out the vapouriser as the gas shakes it at high velocity. Great kit, great stove!

The only criticism is, with no heat adjustment it does two temperatures - Blowtorch or Off!

DUBLIN, IRELAND (Geared Up Blog) - Yesterday i was with the first group of people in Ireland to see MSR’s new revolutionary stove. The Reactor is by far the coolest stove ive ever seen. It took 2 and a half minutes for it to boil a litre of water right in front of us. But the coolest thing by far is that you can hold the stove while you cook. With most stoves you need a foil windbrake and a stable platform but you can easily hold this stove while it cooks your meal. The heat was quite overwhelming when the pot top wasnt on but once the pot goes on can feel not heat coming from the stove. It just shows you all the energy is being concentrated on the water. It’s due for release in either July or August and will retail at roughly €150. The gas and the burner also fit nicely into the pot for compact carrying and transporting.
One last thing, the MSR logo is etched into the top of the burner so it burns and reads with the MSR logo!

“The Fastest, Most Efficient, All-Condition Stove System. Ever.”

LONDON (Geared Up Blog) - I’ve just done my first ever web check-in with Aer Lingus, very prompt.

As I’m carrying a good bit of mountaineering gear back over for a climbing trip Wales in two weeks I took note of what I’m allowed and not allowed especially in the cabin, it’s a well known climbing trick to over-stuff your hand luggage with your rack to reduce hold weight!

Here’s the guide - it’s very interesting they’ve specified climbing equipment in such details.

Not allowed in cabin

- Industrial bolt guns (going big walling?)
- Crampons, grappling iron, hooked bar of iron, or plate with iron spikes used in mountaineering. (plate with iron spike for mountaineering? Does it not have a name?)
- Ice axes & ice picks
- Ski and walking/hiking poles
- Kayak and Canoe paddles
- Gas & gas containers e.g. Butane, propane, acetylene, oxygen & flares.
- Fuel system components which have contained fuel (i.e. your fuel bottle! Clean it out/burn it off first!)

It’s not just us they’re picking against at least… Cooks & Ninja’s have it hard too - Meat cleavers & Throwing stars are also listed prohibited!
