NEWBRIDGE, KILDARE (Team Geared Up) - What did all the adventurers do to deserve this?!

We’ve already had Joe Simpson’s ‘Beckoning Silence’ last night, Beyond Endurance tonight, and now there’s a choice of items to watch on Wednesday. If you’re in Dublin there’s an Irish Mountaineering Council slideshow, and now Dave MacLeod’s ascent of an E10 is being shown on television on the same night! Phew….

For anyone who’s forgotten what this route was all about, BBC’s own description says it all:
“An intimate and frightening portrait of the consequences of one of the world’s best climbers becoming obsessed with a new route in the heart of the Cairngorm mountains.”

Dave MacLeod’s blog is reporting that if you don’t get BBC Scotland, you can get it on Sky on Channel 990 (can someone confirm?) and it might possibly end up online on BBC Scotland’s own site

WANAKA, NEW ZEALAND (Team Geared Up) - In what is lining up to be a pretty amazing piece of footage, BBC are hosting “The Great Climb” - an outside broadcast covering all things climbing and outdoorsy (is that a word?) on August 18th on BBC Two Scotland from 1pm - 7pm.

In an amazing and cool twist, Dave MacLeod of E11 fame (trailer can be found here), has agreed to the BBC’s request for him to climb a hard new route. Dave originally stated that he was keen and “….going to try to climb a beautiful smooth wall, about E8 or E9. The protection is poor so falling off hopefully won’t be in the screenplay.”
However after spenting the past week checking out new lines and has found a possible new, unclimbed, E10 that he’s willing to try if conditions are good. Dave’s description from his own blog entry: “….falling from the hard part or the sustained moves above would mean certain death, no question……is top end 8a+ with even worse pro. Hmmm E10 for sure.”

For those how can’t get BBC Two Scotland, it’ll be streamed live to BBC’s website (but only for UK web users), and they’ll be showing an hour of it on BBC Two and BBC HD. Unfortunately, since I’m on the wrong side of the world for this, I can’t give you exact times and won’t be able to watch this myself! LOL
If anyone knows a legal way to get this in NZ, let me know!
