Team Geared Up

Dublin, Ireland (Team Geared Up) Breaking News is reporting that the Irish Mountain Rescue Association has said climbers are unwittingly risking their lives by setting off on treks without any preparations.

Last year the IMRA responded to 214 call-outs, assisting 265 climbers in need. Thirteen bodies were recovered. According to Gerry Christie of Kerry Mountain Rescue Team people aren’t taking the dangers of Irish mountains seriously and don’t realise how conditions can quickly change for the worse. As someone who has witnessed “climbers” in jeans and runners with no maps, little safety gear and only some cans of beer and cider to keep them going, it is easy to understand where Christie is coming from on this. Hats off to the IMRA for providing a superb service and here’s hoping 2009 is a quiet year.
