Aventure and Ultra Running Podcasts

Written by edmartinell

CHICAGO, US (TEAM GEARED UP) - A few podcasts to kick off this Monday. There are some - not many - websites which publish adventure racing and ultra running audio content. Here’s a small sample of these:

Adventure Edge Radio with Jimmy Buff - The podcast from Sierra Trading Post has been going on for only 2 weeks and the first edition featured the legendary long distance swimmer Lynne Cox. This second edition may be more interesting for the runners. Ben Cheever, novelist and writer for Runner’s World magazine talks about his passion for running. This episode also includes a short look at the recent Badwater Ultramarathon (including a short piece of audio featuring Jamie Donaldson at the finish line).

Ultra-runner Tim Twietmeyer is a living legend in ultra running. In this podcast he talks with SNEWS Live about his early career and how he managed to stay competitive while helping to raise a family and holding down a job in the high-tech industry.

Another big name in the trail running arena. Scott Jurek, with seven victories at the Western States 100, two Badwater championships, a win at the Spartathlon, talks on Endurance Planet, about his training, nutrition, and even his concerns about fellow ultra-runner Dean Karnazes. Look for the second topic on this page

A pioneer of adventure sports, Nils Gisli, the Race Director for Raid 450 in Denmark, created an adventure after discovering the sport online. Listen to him on enduranceplanet.com

And closing the post, a preview of the 2008 XTERRA Mountain Championship off-road triathlon to be held in Utah, USA on August 16.

Ed that XTERRA looks brilliant! Those trails look great.

Yeah, XTERRA’s videos make me want to jump into off-road triathlons. But then I remember how pathetic I am in water sports… and suddenly I feel more comfortable just running on trails…. :)
