Irish Adventurer Mark Pollock announces team for South Pole Race

Written by aislingc

DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) Irish extreme-adventurer runner Mark Pollock has named his team for the South Pole Race which includes ‘Noel Hanna’ and launched his new website SimplyDecide. Irish Ultra runner and friend of TGU John O’ Regan tells me he spoke to him yesterday from England and he’s travelling to Austria today for a training course as part of the race build up. Yesterday he did an interview with BBC News 24 and that’s pictured above! It’s well worth a listen; he explains the unique difficulties involved in the race particularly for a blind person, there’s photos showing in the background of Mark’s previous adventures including a photo of John and Mark!

What’s involved in the race:

In December 2008 international teams will race over 400 miles to the Geographic South Pole. Almost 100 years after Scott and Amundsens historic race, in the Amundsen Omega 3 South Pole Race of the new century teams of 3 will ski pulling 200lb pulks over the same route, with the same equipment, starting from the same start line.
