Update from Avril at Primal Quest 2008

Written by aislingc

DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) Just had an update from Avril Copeland at Primal Quest 2008. She’s part of Team Hunky Dory’s and they’ve just had their race briefing and are trying to come to terms with what lies ahead. There’ve been lots of warnings about bears and how to deal with an attack! Avril is, in her own words, “f’ing petrified”!!

There will be lots to overcome in this race; grizzlies, mountain lions, 4-10ft of snow in some sections, moose, Grade 4 white-water swimming/kayaking, 100,000ft vertical elevation (Mt. Everest stands at 29,000ft, Carrantuohill, 3,414ft), and sleep deprivation…. as little as 60 minutes a night. We will bike, climb, navigate, trek, kayak and swim non-stop for ten days through the back-country of Montana, as we race against the 65 other teams, and also the spectacular course.

Here’s a breakdown of the course:
318Km of mountain trekking
15.6Km Orienteering section
336Km Mt biking
15Km Riverboard
114.8Km flat water Kayak
39Km Whitewater kayak
840Km Overall.

Wow! Lots to get through!! Best of luck Avril and Team Hunky Dory’s! To follow them during the race click this link, then hit “Tracking” and they’re team number 19.Their team blog says she’s being interviewed on RTE1 today at 3pm! Don’t miss it!

Hunky Dory’s have moved from 14 to 12 - considering they are ranked at 19 - that’s fairly impressive! Nike have also moved from 1 to 5 in the last few hours! Interesting eh!

Cheers Jackie! It must be brilliant! They’re doing really well!

They’re on the move again! 11th!

Now they’re in 10th! Although they did seem to move to 23 & then to 15 for a while much to my concern! Out of 60 teams that seriously impressive!

Btw good luck in the Worlds this weekend Ais!
Give it socks!
