Sorry to raise the tone, but since we're talking about sports funding the following link is apt.

If it isn't bad enough that all of the funding seems to go to "established" sports like GAA and Soccer what about the fact that horse and greyhound racing get more funding than all of them put together!!!

For more see;

the issue with all minority sports Peter! No idea how to get around it other than keep plugging away.
I do promise that if I ever win the lotto that a load of the money will go into a fund to support climbers/canoers/extreme runners/etc. :)
That's not much use now, so I'm at a loss how to get government entities to start supporting everything bar GAA, soccer, etc.....

Well done T. I am lucky to know Thomas well... he is a modest fella and as Neal says above he really does need some 'proper' support. Its about time someone stepped in and offered some form of support that would enable him to train properly. At the minute Thomas is juggling work with training commitments - how will he ever reach his full potential if he cant fully focus on his running? At present he has no dedicated sponsor that will enable him to commit to his running - he has received apparel.kit sponsorship form Montane, Fuelbelt and Thorlos - thats it. He's is good now but how good could he be if given the opportunity? Visit the website www.xtnw.com to read more about T and for regular updates on his exploits...
