DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) Super Ultra Runner and Planet Ultramarathon correspondent Tony Mangan has just let us know of an incredible story of one man’s quest to walk around the world in stages. Gary Hause stayed with Tony when he walked through Ireland on one of his stages. Check out Tony’s story here and Gary’s site here.

Gary Hause has been walking around the world in stages for the past 12 years. He works winters as a waiter in a restaurant in Florida. Then he hits the road pushing his gear in a 3-wheeled stroller.

Haven’t a clue how old this is but thought it was note-worthy: Top Gear’s Around the World in 80 Drives;, Drive no. 62 is Galway to Clifden on the N59.

The N59 from Galway to Clifden is not for the faint-hearted or the poorly suspended hire car. Galway is rapidly becoming a second Dublin, but you don’t have to go too far north to feel like you’ve fallen off the edge of the world.

What about the Military Road from Hell Fire to Ironbridge? Any favourites of your own?

Anyone been tracking the two Irish lads Graham Kinch and Ian Taylor from Everest 2008. I read in my local paper they had reached Base Camp. Looks like they’re pushing onto Camp 1 today! Best of luck!

Also from Planet Ultramarathon an incredible story of a blind runner completeing 7 marathons in 7 continents in 7 days. He’s only the third person ever to do this. Last Sunday’s London Marathon was his final one.

The gruelling week-long stretch saw 50-year-old Dave Heeley run a total of 183.4 miles (293.4 kilometres) — 26.2 miles a day — in the Falkland Islands, Rio de Janeiro, Los Angeles, Sydney, Dubai, Tunis and London to raise money for guide dogs.

“To think last week I was in the Falklands, it’s just too incredible for words,” Heeley said after completing his last marathon of the week in five hours and 20 minutes

“I am the first blind person to do this. It’s been a fantastic adventure and one I’m going to talk about for a long time.”

And finally if you’re heading out to Blessington this Saturday for the Total Experience adventure race watch out for me and the all-girly team. That’s if you get anywhere near us! Though you may get to sample the TGU bars if you’re lucky and there promises to be a great party afterwards. :-)
