DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) Irish Ultra Runner Tony Mangan flies out to Brno in the Czech Republic today to compete in the 48 hour race where last year he broke the 48 hour indoor record, as reported by Athletics Ireland.
The event is likely to feature ‘live’ on the race website which has real time updates and webcams! Starts 28th March 10am local.
Check it out here. There’s a brilliant account by Tony of last year’s event here, which he won by running over 426km (or 264 miles). Good luck Tony, we’ll be thinking about ya!

Wow, that really is quite amazing; 10 marathons over two days!!!
I thought my legs were going to fall off after one,
another 9 and they definitely would have: )
This is probably a silly question but, is that 48hrs continously?
If so, and sorry to lower the tone, how did he go to the jacks?
I’ve heard mention of 30 minute sleep breaks and maybe 10 minute puke breaks (!!) but I’d say it’s fairly continuous Fearghal.
Some news of the race from Planet Ultramarathon:

Thanks Aisling,
Trying hard to imagine talking a 30min nap after running 200km and then going on to another 200km after breakfast.
The word super human springs to mind!
I can’t imagine sleep breaks would do you any good in a 48 hour race though. I’d say you’d feel worse! Stopping to eat would probably be better.
Yeah I thought as much.
I see you’re doing planning to do the MdS in 2010.
Fair Play!
