Irish Adventurer Mark Pollock in Race to South Pole

Written by aislingc

DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) Thanks to John O’ Regan for the tip off via the new Team Geared Up messaging system (in the profiles section of each user). John sent us a link to Mark Pollock’s South Pole Race blog which gives details of the first race to the South Pole since the Scott/ Amundsen rivalry nearly 100 years ago, happening this December.

In the spirit of those early pioneers there will be one team attempting to write a new chapter in Polar history. Mark Pollock will attempt to be the first blind person to reach the South Pole with 2 others.

Yet another one of Mark’s crazy stunts!! Head over to the Amundsen Omega 3 South Pole Race site for details of the event and teams that have entered. Best of luck to Mark and his team, the training alone will be incredible!

Good luck mark - I’m quite sure you’ll succeed! I’ve heard excellent reports from your motivational speaking sessions in Ireland.

motivational video link on his site good.

who are the 2 buddys? This will be some challenge… jeezzz. It’s serious mountaineering at the South Pole (Read Fiennes attempt to cross the continent by foot unsupported).

Update: Mark has recently returned from a skiing trip in France and at the moment we’re working on a strategy for hauling the sleds over the ice/snow. I have a plan but would be interested in any suggestions.

Cheers
John

Didn’t realise you know Nick W from Gobi March attempt (spotted you in Marks video). We’re family friends.

Thanks for that Robin. Will check out links and pass them on to Mark. It’s Nick that Mark was skiing with last week.
