Solo-ing with a difference |

KILDARE, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) - Found this through B3Bouldering this morning in my feed. It’s a an interesting way of solo-ing routes.
I won’t give away the main surprise of the footage, but it definitely gave me a surprise(!) when the guy decided to do what you can see in the snapshot from the movie above. No ropes involved……

bleedn’ heck. that was close to the edge! you wouldn’t want to get thrown off it!
pretty interesting anyway - first time I watched it I couldn’t believe the guy launching off it before they showed the netting!
mad
Nice video though..
;-)
Ah that left me with a shiver running up my spine…….euuugghhhh!
Where can I get one of those :P, might change the grade a bit though.
yeah, it looks bit crazy/daft the first time you see it alright!
Although, I can’t think of many steep crags we could use it underneat that have the necessary trees, etc., to tie the netting off to ;)
Chomolungma in Dalkey would be great fun with it….and there could be enough tree’s to set it up there. Then there’s also the project route to the right of it….lots of fun to be had.
A pity that Muckross is so treeless though!
Woops make that project route to the left….although if you find a way up on the right…….fair play!
when will you be out next to try the project route? :)
Need something to motivate me!
Well I’ll be there tomorrow morning but probably only to (hopefully) polish off the current project since I’m in work early.
As for the project route, I’ve never even looked at it..only eyed up the line, but now that you mention maybe I should, it could definitely be motivation for the cold winter months. I’ll try to get a look at it the next time I’m out if you want join me. Might be Saturday or Sunday if the weather report stays good.
Will keep it in mind for Sunday :)
Good luck tomorrow!
they needed to be fairly confident that the net would work.still seems dodgy…what if a sharp implement cut it or impact or there was a point of failure….
and what if you miss the pad, or your spotter is scratching his ass when you fall off and doesn’t notice you plummet to the ground*?!?!?
About as much as risk as you get from this if you ask me :)
* personal experience: missed the pad and landed on my back across a boulder. I’ll tell you - THAT hurt……
