DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) - Report here from the Women’s Cycling Weekend held at Avon Ri, Blessington. Great weekend of activity, really enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The format involved a spin Saturday morning for roadies or mountain bikers followed by lunch and workshops. Cycling’s such a technical sport! Jeez thank God running involves one foot in front of the other! Sunday morning was another long spin followed by lunch and home. While day 1 may have been difficult to organise such a large number of people (about 60 people) into the correct levels, the next day things settled and people were able to guage better where they should be. The group with the kids suited me just fine and the instruction and advice given were brilliant. Fair play to the instructors; they did a great job and had lots of patience!
The nutrition talk by Beth McCluskey turned out to be one of the most popular parts of the weekend with tonnes of advice and questions answered. It’s one of those subjects we all think we know everything about (sports people love to eat right?!) but I think we all learned a hell of a lot and were surprised at how much!
If you were there let us know what you thought of the weekend. (Big thanks to Jackie O for a loan of the flippers! (nothing to do with cyling!!) and to Jenny McCauley for her advice for my sore hands!)
