DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) You know the way sometimes at the end of a race you could almost spit on the people who made you work so hard for your place….well maybe not really, it’s not very sportsmanlike but….but you know what I mean. The person chasing me to the line at Saturday’s Trooperstown Race was John O’ Regan. Within minutes of finishing the race I discovered he had participated in the Ice Marathon and was the running partner of Mark Pollock in their Everest marathon (amongst other things) and was good friends with Mr. Antarctic Ice Marathon Richard Donovan and serious Ultra Runner and winner of the Connemara Ultra Martin Rae. We chatted about gaitors(!!) and the best places to do long distance runs!

John drop us a mail with that photo you were talking about! Great to meet you!
Any other readers met someone who’d done some serious adventures and been suitably impressed?

Aw John!! Are you talking about the feet one! That’s gross. I was marvelling at all the mad places you’ve been and then suddenly up pops a photo of ….well…..I won’t spoil it for any readers who get as far as number 50!

uuuughh yikes ….looks awful, number one is a way nicer pic!!
Thats what Tony has to look forward to in Gobi!!!!

Did you notice the man with the blistered feet has a cigarette in his hand. Don’t tell me that someone who smokes managed a 6 day/ 150 mile trek across the Sahara Desert?

Saw that alright Ais…..was unsure if it was the stress of the trek and blisters that had driven him to it…or maybe a celebratory one…but certainly surprising eh!
Yes and very gross!

Yes it’s the feet! That guy had to drop out on the 2nd last day because of his feet which was a shame because he had bad blisters since day 1 and managed to keep going. When he decided to call it a day the first thing he said to the officials was ” do you have a cigarette?”. I have some other similar photos which i’ll send on.

John
