Expedition Foods

DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) Most people worry about their husband’s pouring over porn on the internet but mine gets excited over this type of thing: Expedition Foods. (It’s good to have someone to find things for you to write about eh?!) Be careful if you click at work: there’s a talking woman on the opening page!! That talking woman is Dr. Emma Dauber, winner of the ladies section of the Attacama 6 day desert challenge. This website is super! It has every type of expedition food you could dream of and all the stats to go with it. So you can build a menu for your expedition with all the required calories and nutrition all laid out.

It has boil-in-the-bag, Army ration packs, freeze dried, cook in the pan, gluten free, vegetarian. It gives the calorie content and all the nutritional info as well as the pack weight. It even has a water activated chemical heater for warming up ‘Ready to Eat’ food pouches! How cool is that? If you’ve used some of these types of foods and know a thing or two about it let us know. We’re ordering some of these to test them out. We’re not going anywhere we’re just trying to avoid washing up…..

(I’m getting errors when I click on some of the links within that site so just watch out!)

great site. must have a deep look at it.

(I’ll pre-empt the Tango&Cash question that’s sure to come RE: T’s surfing habits…. “so does he bring an energy bar or a 24hr ration pack to bed?” sorry sorry, I know.)

I thought it was great, I particularly loved the water activated heater bag but I couldn’t post a photo (problems with their site). Tony’s gonna order some and we’ll let you know what it’s like. If anyone else has experience of any brand of expedition food could they let us know. The weight of the packs is obviously critical.

Tango and Cash are such filthy gits! They’re like our own Twent Major (http://twentymajor.net/).
Rick and co. should be blogging here….

so this begs to ask - what expedition is being planned?!!

(yeh we must get Rick back on here :-) I’ll pester)

You can’t beat these guys for some serious outdoor eating: http://alpineaire.com/products.html

Thanks Evert, had a look at the site. Looks interesting, they seem to also cater for the “emergency provisions” type scenario.

Yup, you can buy a years supply of freeze dried foods in handy cans!
I’ve tried their products before and they are the tastiest about.

haha - aisling, you are too trusting - that wasn’t a water-activated heater bag your hubby ordered! that was the one shaped like a sheep, yes? sorry, guys, … livin’ up to the reputation!
