I had the pleasure of wheeling Dara back through the airports on the way home. 'twas a bit surreal having the newly crowned Irish 24 hour running champion in a wheelchair. Great sympathy from almost everyone, except for the Aer Lingus Air Hostess who (probably correctly) reckoned he was a fuppin eejit for doing that to himself :)

As for Tony... the man is a running machine... unreal. Amazing to see a man at the absolute top of his game at 50 years old. Gives us all hope!

Is that Mark McLoughlin from Cork?

Wow. At the end, he mentions Dara O'Kearney who wrote this account of what these races are like:

"With about 90 minutes to go in the race, the ankle just seemed to go completely. Running was no longer possible, but a fast limp could still be managed. I knew I was near enough to the 200K mark that I could get there if I kept moving. So on I limped, dragging the busted ankle behind me, idly wondering if it was broken, sprained, or just busted in some other way. Tony tried to encourage me to start running again but I told him with finality that my ankle had gone."
