Hi Robin, no problem. It's obviously not the most important of records, but for the sake of accuracy I've emailed a copy of the Guinness World Record cert held by Tim Harris. It confirms that he was 23 years 339 days old when he completed a marathon on all seven continents on 28 January 2007. It acknowledges him as "the youngest man to complete a marathon on all seven continents". Unless Mark Scanlon has an age reveral mechanism, he couldn't be the youngest person to do so when 24 years old one year later. FYI, a 21 year-old called Raj Patel recently completed a marathon on all seven continents and he is gathering his paperwork for Guinness now. Cheers, Richard.

Hi Richard.... I've emailed the source for confirmation of the same evidence.

Real apologies if incorrect (again!).

Your update is absolutely incorrect. I can email a copy of Tim Harris's Guinness World Record certificate confirming he completed the task as a 23-year-old on 28 January 2007. On what basis did you somehow decide that the information I supplied was incorrect? It's a pity you didn't contact me first.

Despite the ongoing news reports in Ireland, Mark Scanlon (24) is not the youngest person to run marathons on all the continents. Tim Harris from Great Britain, at 23 years of age, ran marathons on all the continents within three months, finishing in early 2007. Tim's profile is contained on the website of the Antarctic Ice Marathon, which he completed in 2006. See http://www.icemarathon.com/live/167.html. It's unfortunate, for whatever reason, that this story about Mark Scanlon has been pushed around the media in Ireland. It's unfair and disrespectful to Tim Harris. However, for a truly amazing feat by an Irish runner, check out http://www.iau.org.tw/news_detail.php?Id=299: Tony Mangan ran the equivalent of 10 marathons in two days last year for an official world record.

fair play,
The man is, indeed, a legend.
I couldn't walk for a week after the Cork marathon last year.
Same again for seven months, no thanks.
