SINGAPORE - The Piton posted it so I stole their title, they got it right in one go “47.2 knots of pure awesome-ness”. This video is of The French Hydroptère when it broke a world record for the fastest sailing speed (not including icesailing) when they hit 47.2 knots. Unreal.

I love the comments:

I wouldn’t want to be on this thing if it pitchpoled.

what happens if you hit a whale?

you die, whale dies

It aint the wind powered record though. An Irish wind surfer got an average of 48.7 knots on a french canal a few years ago. he probably reached 50+ to get the average. not sure on the categories, or how official Maynard’s speed was…

Some machine!

Amazing the way the boat remains perfectly level on the hydrofoils. Nothing like a traditional yacht that leans over and spills all the wind force out the top of the sail.

Cool.

There´s so little of it in the water there´s no resistance.
