Just running stuff……

DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) If, like me, you watched Dublin/ New York marathons with envy, then now’s the time to start planning your Spring marathon. Seriously, I’ve been threatening to ditch all these ultras/ adventure races/ mountain marathons and just knuckle down to a serious road marathon for a couple of years now and I feel it’s time I got off the fence/ bike/ canoe/ trail shoe and “just do it”, as a well known sports company might say. Anyway Runners World have summed it all up for you here with a rating for each Spring marathon on your likelihood of a PB (or PR if you’re American!) Be careful, the dates given are for 2007. I’m leaning towards Rotterdam, any thoughts?

Don’t forget this Sundays Off Road Duathlon. Lots of people seem to be under the impression that this race is in Naas! So just to clarify, it’s in the Manor Kilbride area.

If you’re looking for running reading, then Running Fitness (it’s a UK Magazine) has an article in it’s current issue about the Jungfrau Marathon and the Gobi March.

If you’re in the South Dublin area and you fancy running some (road) hills in the dark some Wednesday night then you’re welcome to join our Wednesday night running group for a nippy ten! You can be guaranteed some serious banter and a run you’ll really enjoy! We usually aim to be around the Old Mill pub in Tallaght for 6:50pm but do let us know by leaving a comment! Everyone who does this run loves it! And because it’s beginning to look a lot like…..any good Christmas gift ideas for the runner who has everything?

Christmas prezzies …!!! Well if they have all the gadget and gear - I think an RNR break in monart http://www.monart.ie or inchydoney spa!!!http://www.inchydoneyisland.com/……I live in hope:-(
A runner should never get tired of deep tissue or sports massages!!. Although I dunno if the males would be into facial or pedicures!!
I will come out and join you next wednesday for a run up the mountains, doing a pilates class tmw eve.

That’s great G! I do pilates too, not sure if I’m in favour of it completely? How you finding it?

Thanks for the Monart tip, will keep it in mind. (Can’t see Tony appreciating it though?)

oh its for T ….errrm well they’ve got surf golf and horse riding in Inchydoney if the spa wasn’t up to his taste and its in west cork. you should try http://www.topgifts.ie or - they have got some cool stuff I just had a look their driving experience link and they have the “mini mayhem”experience. I just looooove those cars….. or try mondello http://www.mondello.ie/m.php?page=corporate_days the skid car thing is supposed to be alot of fun but I dunno if T would like that

As for Pilates - well I haven’t got a six pack yet but then I’ve only done five classes and being honest with oneself thats not gonna happen if you come home and eat a packet of jaffa cakes after it!!! Its pretty tough - the stretching is a killer - I often feel like my calf muscles will break in two. We did loads of upper body stretching last night and my shoulders and arms are pretty sore today.

Thanks for the tips G.

As for the pilates, I’m not feeling it that strongly. I did yoga before and found it much better.

Hi Aisling,
Having been both unlucky and lucky with weather in Connemara in recent years I’ve been thinking about Barcelona, and I’ve heard pretty good things about it…
Regards,
Mick

Thanks Mick I checked it out on Marathon Guide

Seems like even though it’s in March it’s still quite hot there?

Before I clicked that I was expecting a “Peter Stringfellow” type image! The thought of it put me off my breakfast!

Hi,
I’ve only ever been to Barca 3 times and all at the end of October, when it was very pleasant. I’d expect similar at early March… In 2006 I ran in Paris and it was a wonderful experience that I’d heartily recommend.
Regards,
Mick

Thanks Mick, Paris seems to be a “runner” with 3 of us travelling at the minute.
