(Not as easy as it sound’s) The first run starts on a gradual uphill then drops down for 1.2km turn around and straight back up a nice steady climb up to transition, the bike course starts with a downhill on a forest road for just over 1.5km which will give plenty of time to recover from the first run and allow you prepare for the climb back to transition, this lap will be ridden 3 times before pulling back into transition for a quick change back to running shoes and out onto the run course for the final lap.

Sarunas (DCU Rock Climbing Club - Trips Officer) sent us a mail to say Dave MacLeod has announced on his blog that “To Hell and Back” is now online to watch but in fairly low res.
Follow the journey of Scotland’s top climber Dave MacLeod as he attempts to ascend Hell’s Lum in the Cairngorms.

And finally, how fantastic is it to have new ‘Guest Posts’ on the scene! Thanks to Stewart Wallace & Rick (of Tango & Cash) for their great posts. I must note that Mr 8a’yton is knocking about in here too these days.

After watching “to Hell and Back” a couple of weeks ago i have no choice but to recommend it to everyone! Go and download it now! It shows the other end of the spectrum of hard trad climbing - where E11 pushed physical difficulty above reasonable protection - this film shows MacLeod having to come to terms with poor weather conditions, access, remoteness, friable rock, and the ever present risk that if he did fall his marginal gear (a few free-hanging skyhooks on crimps and a cam wedged behind a loose flake… below the crux!) would rip and end up landing on him!! It explores the feelings and thoughts of his wife and all the film crew present - and i was left feeling why?! Why go through that?! Then i remembered what it’s like to have found a piece of unclimbed rock that no-one had ever been on - the drive to piece it all together and lead it, claiming it as your own blinds or numbs you to the dangers! Dave only seemed to truly realise what was at stake once on the lead, above the crux on the ‘rest’ hold where he could finally try and calm his nerves, recover his finger strength, remember his sequence for the climbing above and wait…. Well, you’re just gonna have to watch it to find out aren’t you?!

I’m so watching that tonight! Pudsey’s Children In Need has lost a viewer!
I’m off to the Duathlon now! It’s raining so should be extra fun! (Athletics Ireland had a fantastic awards ceremony last night, great event! I plan on blogging about that later as I was there and brought my camera!)
Looking forward to hearing about it!
Me too …. sounds good!
