The Beckoning Silence on Channel 4 |

NEWBRIDGE, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) - It seems Joe Simpson, writer of Touching the Void (the amazing story of his survival of crawling for three days on his own off a mountain after breaking a leg), has been busy making a documentary movie on the epic story of the dramtic attempt to climb the Eiger in 1936 where four climbers perished, one meeting an unfortunate end just metres from his rescuers after hanging on a climbing rope for several hours.
In Joe’s words, “it’s not simply a mountaineering narrative: it is an everyman story.”
Considering it was Channel 4 who funded Touching the Void when that was made into a movie and it was excellent, here’s hoping they do just as good a job with this one!
It’s on Channel 4 in the UK and Ireland (I’m sure satellite also) at 9pm on Monday, October 22nd.

yeah, pretty impressed! Joe comes across almost a bit too analytical but really good and well made. Great footage, the best I’ve ever seen of the Eiger!
Thought it was brilliant! Great story, really well told!
A really great programme, best I have seen on TV!
`The Beckoning Silence` programme on TV was brilliant and gripping.
I was really looking forward to video but was extremely disappointed. The quality of picture was nothing like the broadcast and was pretty poor. Channel Four should have done much better than this. There is no excuse.
@keith…
What quality was poor?
I enjoyed it. tonight is another episode.
The picture quality of the video. It should have been at least as good as the quality of the TV broadcast, but was nothing like it.
