Running News and World Marathon Record

Written by aislingc

I’m late getting to this but what an incredible run by the king himself. Head over to Runners World to read about Haile Gebrselassie’s breaking of the marathon world record, an astonishing 2:04:26. You have to feel sorry for Tergat don’t ya? Haile says he’s overwhelmed!

I believe that I can run 2:03

WOW Do you reckon it’ll be long before we’re seeing a sub 2 hour marathon??

There’s also an article there about Paula’s second placing in last Sunday’s Great North Run and who are the favourites for this Sunday’s Chicago Marathon? I’ve ran Chicago and loved it, it’s one of those big city marathons you just have to do once!

I also read his comments were that he thinks a sub 2-hour can be run one day!

I’m sure it can. How fast were Marathons being run 20yrs ago?

For 10 years from 1988 to 1998 it was 2:06:50. Again it was Berlin in 1998 that it was broken by Ronaldo de Costa so it must be a fast course!

I got this from Wikipedia, hopefully it’s true! ;-)

Wow, that’s great! Paula took two minutes off her own world best when she set the last women’s record, that’s something else!
