MCI Winter series lectures: Robbie Fenlon - trekking in Himalayas

Written by nealmcq

NEWBRIDGE, KILDARE (Team Geared Up) - It’s going to be a messy week for fitting in training, what with Joe Simpson’s documentary on the Eiger tonight, Beyond Endurance tomorrow night, and now the Mountaineering Council of Ireland’s Winter Lectures kicking off this Wednesday (24th). Maybe I’ll just move the tv in front of the fingerboard ;)

“The theme of the lecture will be:
“It’s not the destination that counts It’s the path.
There is a tendency within our achievement orientated society to regard all experiences as boxes to be ticked and things to be acquired. Mountains have not escaped this prevailing attitude. Many people focus solely on their destination and miss the hidden potential of trekking in the Himalaya. Robbie Fenlon an Irish Mountain guide who has trekked in Nepal frequently over the past 15 years will try to convey some of the reasons why he still finds trekking in Himalaya a deeply rewarding experience.”
Date: 24th October, 8pm to 10pm. Venue: Park Inn Dublin, Smithfield Village, Dublin 7″

Damn…. I knew about the 2 TV shows, but now Robbie’s talk not 1.5 miles from my front door on our paddling night….

My belly continues to look less like an adventure racer’s… I am turning into an Armchair adventurer!!!!

Maybe see some of you on wednesday???

not sure I’ll make it myself even though I’m writing the post! LOL

Sounds interesting though, Robbie always gives an interesting lecture. Have fun all.
