DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) Just back from my twice weekly trip to Switzerland ha ha (!!) :-) . What an adventure, I was gonna say my feet haven’t touched the ground but they have, quite a lot, literally! They were hitting the dirt last weekend in Ovronnaz Switzerland for the World Mountain Running Championships. The course was a 4k loop which the junior men and senior women did two laps of, and the senior men did 3. It was very hot on the day and started at an altitude of about 1300m. Well done to all the Irish there, it makes you so proud seeing the Irish vests on a course! (Though less proud seeing them wear silly hats at opening cermonies!)
The easiest way to see the Irish performance is this posting on the Irish Mountain Running forum. Being honest, the overriding thoughts in my head were of proving that the Jungfrau marathon the week before hadn’t tired me too much and that by being second Irish woman home I deserved my place and that’s what happened, so huge relief for me. I also got to meet Jonathan Wyatt, 3 times world mountain running champion, although he wasn’t running. He must have been too tired after winning the Jungfrau marathon the week before! ;-)
