Buff Skyrunner World Series Champions of 2007

Written by eoinod

DUBLIN, IRELAND (Geared Up Blog) - Angela Mudge and Kilian Jornet are the champions of the 2007 Buff Skyrunner World Series. Mudge retained her crown from last year and Jornet becomes the youngest ever champion Skyrunner World Series at the age of just 19. He captured his title with an impressive 4 wins out of 4 races in Andorra, Malaysia, Japan and Spain(Zegama).

The race, held in the Sierra de Aizkorri, had a marathon distance (42,195km) and an accumulated ascent and descent of 5.472m. It was a very technical and difficult route, crossing the highest peaks of Euskadi (Aratz, Aizkorri, Aketegi and Aitxuri). Jornet put himself among the leaders at the beginning of the race, along with the Segovian Raúl García, and members of the Catalan team Tòfol Castanyer and Jessed Hernàndez, and local racers Zuhaitz Ezpeleta and Fernando Echegaray. This group quickly broke away from the rest of the 450 participants, and it was predictable that they would compete for the final victory.

Have you done any of these races Gráinne?

@Eoin, great post!

@Aisling - that was the first thing I thought! They are doing some speed on those rocks!

@Grainne, fantastic photo! love it.

Grainne deserves a post of her own, she ran the Mourne Mountain marathon a week after Jungfrau! Well done G! Have you signed up for the Snow Race in Jan. again?

I haven’t done any of those races though I would be tempted to that one next year if its still on….There are so many cool races abroad, if I had the time and dosh I would do a lot more of them. hmmmm maybe I should become a teacher ?? three months hols during the summer…
Ais - haven’t signed up for trail blanche yet - though I am thinking about doing it, it was good fun last year. are you going to do it ?
As for the MMM or should I say the bog marathon I was a very tired bunny!! The first day I couldn’t run at all, the second day was much better I ran a lot more and we managed to do the stage a lot quicker. I think it was the thoughts of finishing and having soup and sandwiches at the end was what kept me going for the second day!!

Stop being modest G! You’re other half told me you were unstoppable!

Don’t think I’m going back to the Snow Race next year. Looking out for something new in the Spring! Any ideas?

He was just being nice…unmovable would be better word.
And sure what about yourself - off racing in Switzerland. How was that ? Did you have a good time?
Races in Spring - ultras ? or a fast road marathon? or a trail marathon? which you intersted in ?

Anything at all, I’m thinking possibly Rome marathon in March?
