wind up mulitmedia player
ZURICH, SWITZERLAND (Team Geared Up) - Multimedia players are great! Just load up whatever media you want and take it on-the-go for your audio/visual pleasure. There’s just one downside. Batteries. Wouldn’t it be great if you didn’t have to recharge the sucker every few hours only getting maybe a few episodes of a show or one movie or a few hours of songs and then you are stuck. Not anymore! Behold the first Eco-friendly outlet independent media player. This is the perfect player for any outdoorsman that wants to get away from it all but still have some audio/video entertainment and not have to worry about jacking-in to recharge or any hippy that worries about battery disposal and energy consumption. The Trevor Baylis Eco Media Player ($346) features an 1.8 inch LCD screen, 2 GB of internal memory and a SD Memory Card slot for external memory. Its no iPod so screen quality and storage take a bit of a dive but if you ever get stranded on a barren island at least you can watch The Office and 24 re-runs and listening to Foo Fighters till you get rescued then talk to a lifeless volleyball. Shut up Wilson, Jack Bauer’s on!

The Eco Media Player plays music, video, fm radio, and also functions as a torch, sound recorder, photo viewer, mobile phone charger, ebook viewer and data storage device, all in one palm sized package. What’s really clever though, is that it can be charged without being anywhere near a traditional power source, due to the windup mechanism situated on the back of the device, with one minute of winding giving up to 40 minutes of play time from the device.

The Eco Media Player comes out Aug 27 is is available for pre-order.

Nice find!! that’s pretty cool for expeditions. FM Radio is a great addition often missed on new players.

Very very interesting. Like Robin said, the FM radio is a BIG plus.
Still though, I’ll stick with my Solio solar charger when I’m in sunnier climates ;) Wish they’d increase it’s battery capacity and charging efficiency though - it’s been out for over a year now so would like to think there’s been some improvements in the technology since then…..

I saw the Solio for sale in Stansted Duty Free on Friday. Seemed expensive at £44.00. Did you pay this Neal?

sweet. people are looking to our site for news for theirs now.

I use the solio and while I like it, there are things I don’t like, like you mentioned the non-sunny areas don’t work so well. However, this crank system looks great, especially for backcountry expeditions in the winter when sun is hit or miss. I use my solio to power my mp3 player and speakers on the river. This woud be great for a hut!
