The Gobi March

Written by aislingc

DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) There’s a race called the Gobi March that has just started a couple of days ago over in China and it’s part of the Racing the Planet series across world desserts. It’s the traditional stage race format of about 6 days across harsh terrain over varying distances. The reason I’m keeping an eye on this one is that this is the chosen adventurous/ endurance type event for our group of Wednesday Night Runners for next year. I haven’t committed yet (it’s either me or my husband going so we’ll see who wins that one!) but a couple of our group have put their money where their trail-runners are.

Someone who has done this race in 2003 is Irishman Mark Pollock who has just become the first blind person to complete both the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon and the Dead Sea marathon.

According to Outsider:

Running with helper John O’Regan, Pollock finished the steaming hot Dead Sea race on Friday 13 April in a time of 4hr42mins. Pollock was placed 37th and received a special award from the Prince of Jordan to acknowledge his achievement.

Wow - Great to hear Mark has completed that. It was a good family friend Nick Wolf who led him as a guide on Gobi.
