Sam Crowley, Sea Kayaker via Bear180 |
DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) Seriously I will shut the hell up about the weather soon. I know we’re all sick of it and depressed at the current forecast (and reaching for the prozac) but someone who I’d say could seriously benefit from a few rays is Sam Crowley. According to Bear180, a blog I’m just discovering now, Sam is attempting to circumnavigate Ireland in a sea kayak. They say he is currently in Blackball Harbour in the Bara Peninsula.
Trip Goals include:
Solo circumnavigation of Ireland, 1200 miles in 3 months.
Paddle the technically challenging West Coast with tidal races to 9 knots and waves typically between 5’ to 10’. Combined conditions found in few places around the world and nowhere on this scale in North America.
Best of luck Sam!

I would love to sea kayak around Ireland. I think the first step is a navigation of the entire Shannon though.
And there’s an article in this months Outsider about buying your first sea kayak.
He’s pretty unlucky that he’s getting the worst June/July weather that I ever remember. Thanks for mentioning the blog!
Cheers Liam, let us know how he’s doing! I haven’t had a chance to check the sites for info.
