Mission Possible - TGU in the Times! |
IRELAND (Team Geared Up) Geared Up Reader and journalist Richard Oakley asks many questions in todays Sunday Times that you adventure readers will find interesting. He looks into the growing number of people who are attempting challenges that, a few years previous, most were just happy to survive. He asks:
With world firsts apparently running out, what on earth is left to achieve?
He mentions Ian Mc Keever, a relative newcomer to high altitude mountaineering, who is not just attempting the Sevin Summits challenge, but attempting to do it in world record time. Some more of our Team Geared Up heroes are featured including Richard Donovan, Mark Pollock and Pat Falvey. But the best qoutes are attributed to our own TGU founder Robin:
In mountaineering we’ve stood on all the peaks - at least the significant ones. There are still plenty of unclimbed mountains, but in terms of firsts what you are seeing is more people climbing the same things by more difficult routes in faster times or more unique ways.
Even our own Wicklow Round gets a mention!
Tell us what you think; your reasons for your interest in adventure, is it better to be the first or the fastest or the one getting the most publicity. Oh and go buy the paper….it’s a good read! ;-)
