Wicklow Round: Ready to Go!!

Written by aislingc

DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) In about 9 hours on a quiet country road in Kippure we will head off on our latest adventure; our Wicklow Round Attempt. The training’s all done, the bag drops are gone, the weather’s been checked and now the nerves are starting. I actually plan on enjoying it as much as I can, treating it less like a race, which it isn’t, and more like a challenge. The fact that we are the first to attempt it only makes the excitement stronger and the encouragement from others mean so much.

We’ve had lots of encouragement from all angles; my own blog, here on TGU and over at the IMRA forum. From another husband and wife team of ultra runners:

Good luck to you all on Saturday. Will be thinking of you all the way. Can imagine the excitement and apprehension right now. It’s almost exactly 10 years since we ran our first Wicklow Way (31st May 1997). Great to see you young ones doing all the ultradistance running.
Best Wishes, Jane and Graham

Big thanks to everyone who mailed, texted and phoned! My day has been spent doing nothing more than eating, sleeping and blogging, so ideal preparation really. Hopefully my mobile blog attempt (thanks to Robin for the idea) will be just as successful as we intend to be on our round run.

SERIOUS GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I’ll attempt to update TGU in the morning with your current position if you leave it in the text of your mobile blog.

Eoin may do it a few times during the day before he leaves to meet you on a mountain-top!!

-Robin.

Thanks Robin! Trying to catch the last few zzzzzzz’s but the excitement won’t let me sleep! Hopefully the “moblogging” works. Will be watching out for Eoin!
