More Paddy’s Top Everest!

Written by aislingc

DUBLIN, IRELAND (Team Geared Up) The Irish Times are reporting that three Irish doctors have summited Everest from south side of the mountain. Here’s a posting by sister-in-law of Dr. Nigel Hart, one of six doctors conducting medical experiments there. The other Irish summiters were Roger McMorrow and Tipperary man Mick O’Dwyer, all reaching their goal on Wednesday morning.

The Xtreme Everest team has been conducting medical tests throughout the expedition, both on themselves and on 200 volunteer trekkers. The medics hope that results from their research can be used to help intensive care patients, cystic fibrosis sufferers and “blue babies” who suffer from hypoxia (low oxygen) similar to those found on Everest.

The Xtreme Everest team also set up the world’s highest laboratory at 8000m on the South Col. That brings the number of Irish summiting Everest in the last 8 days to 5, including Ian Mc Keever and Hannah Shields, both achievements posted by Team Geared Up. Big well done to everybody, it’s a real inspiration to us mere mortals to read about such huge endeavours! I’m inpired!!
