Feature: The A to Z of Marathons |

LONDON, UK (Team Geared Up) - Featured this morning in the London Metro, Dan Wilson is attempting to run 26 Marathons in 2007, one for each letter of the alphabet. This weekend he will knock off ‘L’ for London.
It’s all in aid of Parkinson’s Disease, but with such a massive itinerary and a goal of £26,000 (£1000 per marathon) one has to wonder will his airfares offset his fund raising!? (Although this is similar to most charity expeditions these days).

Ireland
Scotland
Wales
England
France
Switzerland
Italy

I see a Dan Wilson listed as finishing London yesterday in about 5:51 so if it’s him Well Done! That’s some chip system London have, I could look up results at about 5pm yesterday.
Hope he manages the rest of it, like you said, it must be costing an absolute fortune. I’ve looked at doing some of those marathons in the past and they are really expensive just to get there: Everest, China, Sahara, North Pole etc. I really hope he does it and raises the funds he’s after for Parkinsosns Disease. Be keeping any eye on his blog.
Tis true, the airfares, race entries and general expenses are dear, but I am relying on hand outs from companies and airlines to cover costs, in return for advertisement. Also, the £26,000 I intend to raise is a ball park figure, I actually want to raise well in excess of that. The longer I go on, the more publicity I get and the more sponorship I get, so fingers crossed. If anyone knows any companies that are interested in sponsoring me, let me know!
Cheers!
Dan
Hey Dan! Thanks for commenting here! You’re welcome to send us in updates I can copy & paste if you’d like the feature on Geared Up?
Well done Dan! How’s the legs after London? Krakow next is it?
There’s mention of an injury on your Guest Book so hopefully all is well with you and you’re resting up! Dying to hear how you get on in the Everest one.
Hello!
Robin - I will send in updates, as I’d love to feature on Geared Up!
Aisling - I hurt my right knee, after I slipped on a cobble on the streets of Barcelona. It was the slightest little slip, but it turns out I have a small cartalige tear, which prevents my knee from fully straightening. It’s a bit sore, but providing it doesn’t get a lot bigger, I’ll battle through the next 20 marathons and get it sorted in December, after No26, in Singapore.
It is Krakow next, which i am really looking forward to, that’s on sunday the 5th, then I’m off to China for the Great Wall on the 19th, then 10 days later I am at Everest, which I think will be the most incredible thing I’ll ever see. I can’t say how much i am looking forward to tackling Everest.
You’re a lucky guy! Definately send updates! (Short enough but that we can copy & paste will increase chances! but we’ll do our best)
Dan I shouldn’t laugh but that’s so funny, a real marathon runners attitude, that ‘you’ll get it sorted after the next 20 marathons’………..brilliant!
It’s funny, I’m doing all this for such an important and serious cause, but running 26 marathons in one year, is so ridiculous, you have to see the funny side of the whole thing. I take my preperation seriously, so that I don’t get in to bad health, but everything else I like to treat with a laugh.
Dan your parents must be so proud!
If it all works out well they will be. At the moment they’re mainly nervous! it’s funny, everyone always says to me “Wow Dan, what an achievement” and I always have to say “I haven’t done it yet!”.
Dan, deciding to do your ‘26′ is what makes it an incredible achievement. That might sound a bit cliched but it takes some guts to tell the world you’re going to do something crazy, it really does. You’re probably also sick of people telling you you’re mad. You must have to play some head games with yourself to keep yourself going with an injury (the charity angle must be the big impetus I suppose). Mucho admiration. If you have any secrets, spill them here………..I won’t tell anybody………..
I’m raging you’ve done ‘D’ and it’s not Dublin! Next year come back to Dublin and run it for fun if you haven’t already.
