Air-sea rescue services are on their way to assist two kayakers who have got into difficulty off the Clare coast this afternoon.

The alert was raised when the kayaks began to drift out to sea near Fanore.

The Shannon based coastguard helicopter and the Doolin rescue services are on their way to the scene.

A spokesman for the coastguard service said the kayaks are about 300 metres off shore and the concern is that they are being driven out to sea by an easterly wind.
