Speed-Riding: Skiing with a Paraglider |
DUBLIN (Geared Up Blog) - Press play below, and be in awe. Speed-riding has to be one of the craziest sports I’ve seen recently. The boys at Acro-Base who seem to be pioneering it, have recently filmed a video of a speed-ride down the Eiger. It’s amazing footage.
Speed-riding appears to be skiing with a full paraglider attached to you. Very like kite surfing in a way - but considering you’ve got the altitude drop to play with you need slightly more than just a kite! Everytime you hit an edge you fly, apparently they managed to descend Mont Blanc (4810m) from summit to valley in only 8 minutes, now that is fast!

It’s not exactly a “full” paraglider. It’s closer to a third the size. It flies much faster. It’s somewhere between a paraglider and a ski diving canopy.
