Irish Mountain Running Calender 2007

Written by eoinod

DUBLIN (Geared Up Blog) - Thought i’d give you my pick of the races scheduled in Ireland for the year ahead. To see the full list of races visit I.M.R.A.(Irish Mountain Running Association)

Sat 14th April - Wicklow Trail 25k/50k
Sat 5th May - Aughavannagh 22.6k
Sun 3rd June - Carrauntoohil 13.7k
Sat 9th June - Wicklow Way Relay 120k
Sun 17th June - Lugnaquilla 5.1k
Sat 30th June - Mweelrea 12.5k
Sun 8th July - Glenmacnass 19.6
Sat 10th Nov - Powerscourt Ridge 14.5k

With Mweelrea, Lugnaquilla and Carrauntoohil the races which will determine the KOM(King of the Mountains) expect competition to be fierce. The Wicklow Way relay is always a great part of the calender and im sure this year will be no different, Robin and myself ran as part of a team 2 yrs ago and we found out first hand that you have got to make sure you arrive in plenty of time to allow for the pace to be much quicker than expected. The Wicklow trail 25/50k should also be another one to watch for as I.M.R.A. have taken it back as their race again after problems with insurance in the past. I ran the 25k 2 years ago and if things go to plan might have a go at the 50km this time round.
