Rescue: 9 kayakers rescued, UK. |
DUBLIN (Geared Up Blog) - It’s being reported on BBC NEWS tonight that nine people from a kayak club had to be rescued after their kayaks capsized off Land’s End in Cornwall.
A Royal Navy helicopter and two lifeboats were involved in the rescue, between Land’s End and Sennen Cove.
Emergency services were alerted at about 1100 GMT by one of the group who had a handheld VHF radio.
The nine were recovered on to the Sennen Cove lifeboat and one has been flown to the Royal Cornwall Hospital suffering from mild hypothermia.
Peter Bullard, watch manager at Falmouth Coastguard, said: “This group of kayakers are members of a professional club. However today the adverse weather conditions proved too challenging for a few of the party.
“The quick thinking of the man who alerted us instantly to their situation meant that we could initiate our assets straight away to recover all nine casualties before any serious injuries were suffered.”
