id really like to know if any of you people actually know the real story! They didnt need to be rescued, they didnt ask to be rescued. If a guy calls the rescue centre from a mountain and then when they come, he says actually i think i can manage to get back safe on my own...he would be crowned a hero. This guys are experienced surfers who have paddled into mavericks before so dont give any nonsense about not experienced enough.
Your negativity is disgusting

jetskis are for surfers who have the experience and training regimes to paddle into and out of the waves that they face. To augment skill is not the same as creating it, and to be honest, I won't be at all surprised to find the Irish boys shocked when trouble appears. Hawaii recognized this issue 4 years ago, tow-ins are pretty much regulated, officially and unnofficially, with courses being run to ensure haoles don't fuck shit up. Wake up, being able to afford a ski doesn't mean that you are a competent surfer, it means you are a lucky one.

Lucky escape again thats twice in the last year. Our rescue service have better things to be doing in times of high swell! All tow in teams should have a back up ski in the water in case of mechanical break down or at least an alternate tow team to watch their backs. If they can organise a photographer why wont they organise a safety plan??? Charge on but have a good think about your safety before ask other people in the services to risk their lives to save ye!!!

I read on the paper that one of the surfers actually swam away from the helicopter as it approached him and didnt want to be rescued. Its a difficult situation... Should we ban all people from climbing the McGillcuddy reeks because its dangerous and once person will die a year..... where do you draw the line. I love surfing and I think those tow-in surfers are ledgends :-)

too right, It was foolhardyarrogance that got the surfers in that position, it was because a less experienced surfer was out there with a videocamera, he couldint handele or read the water and got into difficulty, its not the place to be out your hands full, he should have to pay for the helicopter call out for his waste of peoples time, what if someone got into trouble getting him....was it worth it to take a few minutes of footage, killin himself or a rescuer. He should have to pay and learn a lesson...the sad thing is that he will probably go out again.

They should pay a decent chunk of money to Doolin Rescue, the silly buggers. Do they really think people have nothing better to do than risk their lives for those chancers?
