A MAJOR incident exercise involving a passenger boat with a capacity for 50 passengers will take place this Sunday, April 2, from 11am to 3pm on Lough Derg, just off Two Mile Gate on the Scarriff road from Killaloe.

Killaloe Ballina Search and Rescue wish to inform the public that this event is taking place, to avoid causing unnecessary alarm, as there will be a lot of emergency vehicle activity around Killaloe on this day.

The exercise will include the HSE major incident unit from Limerick, Killaloe Gardai, Killaloe Ballina Search and Rescue Unit, Lough Derg Sub Aqua Unit, Civil Defence Units from Ennis, Nenagh and Kilkenny, RNLI Dromineer, Mountshannon Rescue, Irish Coast Guard and local doctors.

The purpose of this exercise is to bring all the emergency services together, so that they may have a better understanding of how each works and to formulate a plan for the future, in the event of a major incident happening on Lough Derg.

The public are welcome to observe this exercise

Get along there and WATCH! Well worth having a gander.

What do you think the chances of them organising anything like that for dublin or more specifically that involve us?

I was involved in one when training for the Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician course. Simulated passenger jet crash on Kippure. http://www.wildmedic.org.

DubWick Mtn Rescue, Glen of Imal Mtn Rescue, HSE Disaster team, SARDA, Gardai, about 6 ambulances, some mobile field hospital.. I think I wrote a review at the time… http://www.themafikeng.com/home/read.php?trip_id=1

Fire Brigade were talking about a joint ops a year ago I think. It’s just a case of one team stepping up to plan it. Might just do that over the summer actually.
