Limerick & Drogheda rescue teams out

Written by admin

UPDATE: The Limerick team is not IRCG, it is just an available resource to the IRCG.

The newly ‘aquired’ Irish Coast Guard unit previously ‘Limerick Marine Rescue Services’ have picked up the body on Lough Derg. (I wrote about the team here).

Meanwhile overnight a man crashed into the river from the Bridge of Peace in Drogheda at 3am, so I suspect the unit up there were out in their D-Class.

And now also just in! A rescue operation is underway in the atlantic to save two more rowers (British) who are in the same race as our boys Ciaran & Gearoid were.

Bob Warren and Chris Barrett sent out a distress signal about 100 miles west of Antigua in the Caribbean.

A British Navy warship has made its way to the scene to search for the men.

Compared to the Irish lads, it must be a good feeling to know your country can just call in a ‘war ship’ at the drop of a hat!

UPDATE: The incident happened 100miles from the finish, doh! Apparently exactly the same circumstances as the Irish lads. They are now both safe on the support vessel Aurora.

Hi,

Interesting comments.

For the record, the Irish Naval Service has, and continues to, assist in rescues at sea using it’s 8 patrol vessels.

(N.B. - I’m not a member of the Irish Navy)

Regards,
Dermot.

yes the drogheda coast guard were out that night, but they did not assist in the rescue, it was the boyne fishermens rescue and recovery service, their diving unit recovered the trapped man from the submerged car.
