Ongoing Search for boat off Wexford coast |
ugh oh… their’s a shout!
UPDATE (30th Nov 1100hrs):
An oil slick and wreckage have been found by another fishing boat and efforts are now centred on a location 1.5 miles south of the Great Saltee Island.
Around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon, the Rising Sun capsized, supposedly very quickly.
The two crewmembers managed to get on top of the vessel after it had turned over and it is understood they remained clinging onto the upturned boat for maybe three and a half hours.
UPDATE (22:34) :
The Irish Coastguard service has confirmed that two fishermen missing off the Wexford coast have been found.
There is still one missing :-(
ORIGINAL POST:
RTE News - Search for boat off Wexford coast
A major search operation is under way off the south Wexford coast after a fishing boat failed to return to port this evening.
The ‘Rising Sun’ with three men on board was last seen at around 3.30pm this afternoon just over 3km south of the Great Saltee Island, which is just over 6km from the Wexford coastline.
The search operation is being led by the Irish Naval vessel, the L.E. Orla, and is being joined by lifeboat crews from Rosslare and Kilmore Quay.
A number of fishing boats from Duncannon and Kilmore Quay have also gone out to search for the missing boat.
The coastguard service did not receive any May Day or distress call but the alarm was raised after the boat failed to return to Kilmore Quay at around 4.30pm.
Attempts to contact the ‘Rising Sun’ have so far been unsuccessful and conditions are described as very misty in the search area.

I think the news was reporting this morning that one of the two fishermen rescued last night has died.
it is alright :-(
Jimmy Meyler died of hypothermia. One body still missing. I’m fingers crossed that it isn’t the Arklow Sea Scouts Meyler family. But we’ll hear all about it anyway.
they’ve found the boat now.
Hi,
Im from the fishing village in which one of the four fishermen lost their life. I wish to sent my respects to Jimmy as i personally knew him. He used to sell his lobsters to me. I hope there is better news on Mr. Colfer who has not been found yet! :-(
I hate to say it Gina.
But it dosn’t look positive :-( He isn’t mentioned in the news reports, only that the other two hung onto the boat for 3hrs before it sank. It had capsized. If he was wearign a lifejacket, you would expect him to have stayed afloat and the body would have been located.
It’s always sad when you hear a local story.
Especially when from a fishing village yourself.
RIP
