The story is told of the first post-war major epic adventure to grab the worlds attention, Rafting from Lima in Peru to the Pacific Islands (Near Easter Island) in a replica boat to that of would have been used in the first ever crossing by inhabitants of the islands when they arrived there.

The materials used were Balsa Woods trees which while very light & buoyant is very absorbent, so all the critics said they never could have possibly made it that far as the raft would sink after a few weeks afloat.

In-fact the raft didn’t sink, it stayed afloat and the crew of 6 managed the voyage with no hope of rescue if they came into trouble. There are good stories of the problems in landing at the other side with the coral reef, and also getting washed overboard, shark attacks, and fishing methods.

Apparently the guy who did it made a boat later out of reeds, and attempted the Atlantic to show how people first got from Asia to South America.

Chapter 2 on the way home today!
