USANY unveils plan for more secure tower - The Boston Globe - Boston.com - Nation - News Reports the following about the construction of the Twin Towers WTC replacement:
“The tower will be set atop a 200-foot concrete and metal pedestal designed to repel explosions. Its base will be constructed of 3-foot-thick concrete clad in a shimmering metal curtain for additional blast protection. The building will be sheathed in plastic-laminated glass for increased resistance to pressure from explosives.
The building’s stairwells, elevators, communications systems, and water mains will be housed in a 3-foot-thick concrete and steel core for extra protection in case of a terrorist attack.
The structure will include extra fireproofing, biological and chemical air filters, extra-wide emergency stairs, a dedicated staircase for firefighters and ”areas of refuge” on each floor.”
Dear God… Are you Americans THAT thick? Surely this just points the finger at the unsecured Empire State building to be next!

Actually, the Empire State Building is EXTREMELY hefty; it’s already had at least one plane crash into it, and its structure is at least twice as strong as is strictly necessary…
