Hillrunning, The Big Hill… Everest

Written by admin

Whilst most of the expeditions on the South side of Everest this year
are hunkered down in base camp chin wagging about the bad weather, and
bleeding the media dry of stories, one man, Bruno Brunod from Italy,
has other ideas. Bruno is perhaps best known for his incredible run up
and down Cervino in Italy which was made into a short film depicting
him in near free fall during the descent. Bruno is a Skyrunner! In
much the same way as down-hill mountain biking is becoming a sport in
its own right, fell running appears to have it’s gravity keen
afficionado’s too. Bruno holds numerous Skyrunning world titles and
records, and is currently attempting to become the fastest person up
and down Everest (from Base Camp). His split times (yes, Everest is
now being measured in split times!) are: ABC to C1: 1 hour 50; C1 to
C2: 2 hours. Those two legs represent height gains of 600 and 800
metres respectively!
