Petzl Work solutions - Solutions - ASAP®: is the Lastest and greatest from Petzl. It’s industrial rope access stuff, the idea being that when you fall, at a certain speed it locks onto the rope. But at walking speeds it simple moves with you.

What is inventive about it is it won’t slide down the rope under its own weight like other devices do. i.e. when descending it’s being dragged down wiht you so it’s goign to give the minimum fall before stopping you. It works on both vertical and angled slopes.

From reading the technical documents on it, it would appear that it is a toothed device, but the teeth are on a wheel. so the wheel runs along the rope as you move. When you fall the teeth are in place and the wheel is locked up squezzing the rope against the edge of the device. Clever, simple, effective.
